Energy flow

Dispatch target (cleared) vs availability — 5‑minute intervals. VIC1 regional price (RRP) on right axis.

Revenue (× MLF)

Estimated $ per interval using regional RRP and MLF effective on each day.

Methodology & assumptions

  • Dispatch & availability — AEMO Next Day Dispatch UNIT_SOLUTION (5‑minute intervals). Intervention intervals excluded.
  • Regional pricedispatch_price RRP matched by settlement time and NEM region (from generator registry).
  • Revenue (× MLF) — cleared MW × (5/60 h) × RRP × MLF. Chart uses MLF effective on each interval’s date; summary total uses MLF as at the end of the selected period (same as the revenue list).
  • Curtailment — estimated economic curtailment when availability exceeds dispatch target: max(0, availability − cleared) × (5/60) MWh.
  • Not settlement — estimates only. AEMO settlement applies DLF, rebids, constraints, and other factors not modelled here.

Financial overview

2026 real AUD. Monetary values are CPI-adjusted to 2026 real Australian dollars. Greenfield capex uses AEMO benchmarks when plant-specific cost is unknown.

Est. SRMC
$158.38/MWh
Capex total (greenfield)
$103.07M

How this was derived
The total capex is a scaled estimate for one 47 MW unit using the AEMO/Aurecon small gas turbine EPC cost; it excludes land/development and site-specific fuel connection costs.

2024 Energy Technology Cost and Technical Parameters Review (medium confidence)

Capex refurbishment
Capex / MW
$2,193,000

How this was derived
No plant-specific construction cost was located; the small-OCGT EPC benchmark is used for a 47 MW aeroderivative OCGT unit.

Reference
2024 Energy Technology Cost and Technical Parameters Review (medium confidence)

Capex / MWh storage
Fixed OPEX (annual)
$816.3k

How this was derived
Annual fixed O&M was derived by applying the AEMO/Aurecon small-OCGT fixed O&M rate to BDL02’s 47 MW capacity.

Reference
2024 Energy Technology Cost and Technical Parameters Review (medium confidence)

Fixed OPEX / MW-yr
$17,368

How this was derived
Fixed O&M is not publicly reported for Bairnsdale; small-OCGT default is used because Bairnsdale uses aeroderivative LM6000-class turbines.

Reference
2024 Energy Technology Cost and Technical Parameters Review (medium confidence)

Variable OPEX / MWh
$16.10

How this was derived
Variable O&M is not publicly reported for Bairnsdale; the small-OCGT default is used and may vary with starts and OEM maintenance regime.

Reference
2024 Energy Technology Cost and Technical Parameters Review (medium confidence)

Fuel cost / GJ
$13.55

How this was derived
Because no Bairnsdale-specific fuel contract price was found, ACCC east-coast long-term gas contract pricing is used as a current fuel price proxy.

Heat rate GJ/MWh
10.50

How this was derived
AEMO provides a generator-specific static HHV heat rate for Bairnsdale.

Notes
Bairnsdale Power Station is a 94 MW natural-gas peaking station with two 47 MW GE LM6000PD OCGT units commissioned in 2001; BDL02 is one of the two units. No source-backed original 2001 construction cost was found in public searches. The capex, fixed O&M, variable O&M, and asset life fields use AEMO/Aurecon 2024 small-OCGT defaults as a modern replacement benchmark, scaled to 47 MW for BDL02 only. Capex is EPC cost only and excludes land/development and fuel connection unless otherwise noted by the source. Heat rate is the AEMO existing-generator static HHV heat rate for Bairnsdale. Efficiency is calculated as 3.6 / 10.5 = 34.3% on an HHV basis. Emissions intensity is calculated as 10.5 GJ/MWh × 51.53 kg CO2-e/GJ = 0.541 tCO2-e/MWh Scope 1 combustion only; if Victorian Scope 3 gas factors are included, total would be approximately 0.58 tCO2-e/MWh. Global Energy Monitor lists both Bairnsdale units as operating, 47 MW each, start year 2001, with planned retirement 2042, but this is secondary-source information and no official owner closure announcement was found. AusNet/AER materials indicate the prior network-support contract expired in 2022, increasing reliance on merchant availability and local network augmentation.
